My Works.

I work with pattern in my art practice. My works relate to the ideas of connectivity, obsessiveness, repetition, optical and spatial illusions, architecture, and ritual. They usually turn out to be very intricate and labor intensive. There is something about the quality of drawing that always makes my artworks feel right. I also like working with other mediums while seeking the connections that they have with drawing. I began working with mostly black and white but I have been experimenting with color and have found that using color enhances the optical experience that I’m trying to achieve. I also started working on different materials with layers and transparency. My goal is to further explore the effects color has on our perception.

Pattern is a part of everything we see. The system that I use to come up with my patterns is this idea of using repetitive shapes. I like the idea of simple and smaller shapes coming together to form complex compositions. I want to show what pattern can do to our senses. My main objective is to make works that enable others to have different experiences when viewing them. For instance, something that they can experience like the feeling of being drawn to an illusionistic space. I hope that the viewer can experience an optical experience through a 3-D illusion. In addition, my goal is to influence the viewer in ways that could almost cause a “hallucination” or take their minds to a different place by the use of patterns and colors.
